DISEC

DIRECTOR

It is my delight and honour to be this year’s director of DISEC (the Disarmament and International Security Committee) and my pleasure to welcome you to ISM MUN ‘20! For most of you this committee doesn’t require an introduction and for those of you who don’t, be happy; you just hit the lottery!

Being an absolute mammoth of a committee, you’ll have the chance to witness some of the most heated debates, intriguing and exciting topics and unexpected and interesting information about every country which you wouldn’t have known before. Also let’s not forget about the small and fun things like the informal apologies and motion of entertainment where all of you can enjoy yourselves and have a good laugh.

Not only is MUN a platform for gaining knowledge but it also helps improve your diplomacy, understand various perspectives, think critically and debate acumen and may also become your passion! We as the dais here to guide you through this experience and help you have a pleasant time. Moreover, what’s more interesting to talk about other than conflict, weapons and disarmament?

Dear delegates,

Welcome to ISMMUN 2020! My name is Viswanath Praveen and I’ll be the assistant director of DISEC for this year. MUN has overall been a life-changing encounter for me and I have thoroughly enjoyed every  session I’ve been to.

MUN is and always has been an enriching experience. The feeling of mutual respect and power really help you build your self-confidence. For me personally, it has greatly changed the way I look at and perceive things. For example even a harmless newspaper article can bring back fond memories of an incident in a session. The best thing about any ISMMUN is that when you enter into the room and until you exit you are no longer a student of ISM but an extremely knowledgeable ‘adult’ who caries the responsibility of representing an entire nation.

More than MUN I’ve always been a fan of public speaking and it is MUNs that have truly instilled in me the confidence to debate, argue and take a stand where it matters.  I along with your Director have worked hard to try and ensure that this year’s session will be one that will be etched into your memory for time immemorial. I’m sure you all have prepared well and if I have one request for all of you that would be to just have fun. Make use of your research to the fullest, go out there and give it your best.

For credentials, my first MUN was ISMMUN 2018 where I miraculously managed to achieve best position paper despite me quacking in my boots from the start. My second was, in fact, MSMUN at Jaipur where I represented Afghanistan at DISEC and bagged a high commendation. Lastly, I was also a part of last year's MUN and successfully stole the Best Delegate position from all the other competitors.

Yours,
Viswanath Praveen
Assistant Director, Disarmament and International Security Committee
